Makeup trends in the past few years have definitely seen more of a preference for a full face with a heavy coverage base, rather than a more minimalist look. This means that creating a flawless finish with your foundation and concealer is important, otherwise your makeup can start to look cakey as the day goes on. Exfoliate Your Face

One of the things that can really interfere with the finish of your makeup is dry skin. As you know if you’re a regular reader, as well as looking at our individual products, we also sometimes like to turn the spotlight on the most important ingredients within those products. Today, it’s the turn of ceramides, and we’re here to teach you everything you need to know.

What are ceramides?

Ceramides are a type of fatty acid called lipids. They’re naturally found in skin cells and make up about half of the outer layer of skin. While ceramides are noted for their role in brain and nervous system development, they’ve gained a lot of interest in the world of skincare for their potential skin health benefits.

What do ceramides do?

Ceramides are essentially the glue that holds our skin cells together to keep our skin barrier intact and healthy. Ceramides are the major component of the skin’s surface. A healthy skin barrier helps seal in moisture and seal out harmful elements. They protect against moisture loss to keep skin youthful, supple and nourish the skin from within.

Why do we need ceramides in our skin care if it’s already in our skin?

Five Things That Could Be Making Your Spots Worse

Unless you’re incredibly lucky, there’s a good chance that you’ve had at least one or two blemishes to deal with in your life. However, if you’re mortal like the rest of us, you’ve probably dealt with some level of acne before. In fact. The NHS states that “About 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne to some extent. Acne is most common in girls from the ages of 14 to 17, and in boys from the ages of 16 to 19”, a statistic which may seem surprising. With this in mind, we thought we’d share with you some of the more obscure (but equally as damaging) things that could be making your spots worse without you even realising:

Face Masks

Since the start of the pandemic, wearing masks has become second nature for most of us, but it has been known to cause havoc with some people’s skin. If you’re wearing a mask for long periods of time, it’s essential to ensure you’re using a good , non-stripping face wash twice a day, such as Aromatherapy Associates Mattifying Deep Cleanse Face Wash which contains antibacterial ingredients to fight the causes of spots. Also, if you’re not wearing disposable masks, ensure you wash your cloth masks daily to stop them from adding dirt and bacteria onto your face each time you wear them.

Is It Acne?

There is a vast difference between occasional breakouts and full-blown acne, and as such, each problem needs to be treated differently.
