One ingredient which we think our customers should know more about is niacinamide. It’s part of the vitamin B3 family, found in foods such as almonds and avocados, and is quite simply one of the most effective anti-inflammatory ingredients in skincare. Unless you’re incredibly lucky, there’s a good chance that you’ve had at least one or two blemishes to deal with in your life. However, if you’re mortal like the rest of us, you’ve probably dealt with some level of acne before. In fact. The NHS states that “About 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne to some extent. Acne is most common in girls from the ages of 14 to 17, and in boys from the ages of 16 to 19”, a statistic which may seem surprising. With this in mind, we thought we’d share with you some of the more obscure (but equally as damaging) things that could be making your spots worse without you even realising:

Face Masks

Since the start of the pandemic, wearing masks has become second nature for most of us, but it has been known to cause havoc with some people’s skin. If you’re wearing a mask for long periods of time, it’s essential to ensure you’re using a good , non-stripping face wash twice a day, such as Aromatherapy Associates Mattifying Deep Cleanse Face Wash which contains antibacterial ingredients to fight the causes of spots. Also, if you’re not wearing disposable masks, ensure you wash your cloth masks daily to stop them from adding dirt and bacteria onto your face each time you wear them.

Is It Acne?

There is a vast difference between occasional breakouts and full-blown acne, and as such, each problem needs to be treated differently. Facial products containing mineral oils, for instance, are a big no-no if you have acne or blemish prone skin as it can contribute to blocked pores and inflammation. Although it may seem, to the casual observer, that the rise of the Gua Sha facial tool has happened in the last couple of years, the history of the Gua Sha is actually centuries old. The Gua Sha predates acupuncture and comes from the Stone Age when Bian stone was used for various medical purposes.

So what are the benefits of using a Gua Sha and what else do you need to know before taking the plunge? Here’s an overview of everything you should know:

What are the benefits of Gua Sha?

The theory behind Gua Sha is that energy needs to flow through the body but can sometimes become stagnant. Rubbing the skin’s surface is thought to help break up this energy, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. On a biological level, lymphatic drainage is massively aided with regular Gua Sha usage and just a few minutes of Gua Sha action every day can have a major impact on skin’s tone, tautness and clarity. It also:

Next, apply your favourite facial oil to allow the tool to glide over your skin without causing too much friction or irritation. Holding the tool at a 30 to 45-degree angle, very gently scrape it across your skin. As a rule, all movements should be upward and follow lymphatic flow. Repeat each movement three to five times before moving onto the next area of your skin.

Do I need additional products?

This however is only true for certain types of light and, actually, LEDs provide certain wavelengths of red and near infrared light which can be extremely beneficial to the skin. What is FaceLite?
