Manuka Masks for You

www.pexels.comYes, you can put it on your toast, stir it into your lemon and ginger tea or dollop it on your porridge, but honey is also excellent for your skin, with Manuka being one of the best of all to use.

The New Zealand honey not only tastes amazing but it experts believe it offers a wealth of other benefits. It comes with natural antibacterial properties that gently, but effectively, deal with spots and blemishes, it is also thought to be able to restore the natural pH balance of the skin and aid healing.

One of the best ways to get the most out of Manuka Honey when it comes to your skin, is to make it into a face mask.

Sticky yes, but totally worth the mess, so let’s have a look at what might work for you.

The Moisturising Manuka Mask
We have had a very hot summer which is great, but the heat can totally zap much-needed moisture our skin needs if it is to be healthy. For this mask we suggest adding avocado which is packed with the good fats and Vitamin E skin loves. Peel half a small, ripe avocado and mash it up with a tablespoon of Manuka honey until you have a paste you can smooth onto your face. Once you have done this, sit back for 15 minutes and let the goodness sink in and your worries melt away. Clean away with a soft tissue, rinse your skin with warm water, then enjoy the other half of the avocado on toast.

The Spot Fixing Manuka Mask
The Maori people have been using Manuka as a soothing skin balm for years and that’s because it really does work. This isn’t a complicated formula, but it is a sticky one so sit inside away from wasps once you have applied a thin layer of honey to troubled areas on your face, neck and back. Leave on for 30 minutes as the ingredients get to work and ease your problem areas, then rinse away.

The Magical Anti-Ageing Manuka Mask
Honey is also said to come with anti-ageing powers, and as it is natural it has to be worth a try. Place one tablespoon of Manuka honey in a bowl, then mix in one egg white and beat together. Egg whites contain collagen and proteins that help to improve skin tone and elasticity, so when added to moisturising honey, you have a great combination and a lovely treatment for a youthful complexion.

The Super-Soothing Mask
Red, inflamed, angry skin isn’t fun for anyone, but mixing anti-inflammatory oats with Manuka honey, can offer a little relief. This is a little more involved than some of the other masks, but mix half a cup of hot (not boiling) water with a third of a cup of oats then leave to cool for ten minutes. Then add two tablespoons of natural, full fat yoghurt, one egg white and two tablespoons of Manuka honey and blend together before applying to your face. After 15 minutes rinse away with warm water and hopefully your skin will feel loved and you will have had time to sit back and relax too.

The Maunak Exfoliator and Mask
Mixing Manuka with sea salt is a brilliant way to gently, but effectively, exfoliate your skin and remove the dead skin cells that can dull your complexion. Mix together two tablespoons of fine pink Himalayan sea salt and the same of Manuka honey, then gently massage the paste into damp, cleansed skin. Make sure you avoid the delicate eye areas, and paying attention to the nose and chin. This can also be used as a mask, leave it on for around ten minutes and whichever option you go for, rinse away the mix with warm water and when you pat your face dry with a clean towel, it should feel smooth and soft.

We hope you will find a mask that works for you, and of course we are here for when you need a little spa pampering too.

Smell Phenomenal Without Perfume

Smell Phenomenal Without Perfume
Photo by Darren Nunis on Unsplash

Smelling nice is one of the keys ways to make you feel great all day and can feel like the finishing touch to a beautiful outfit. However, some of us really don’t get along with perfume, as heavy fragrances can cause migraines, skin irritation and even nausea. There are, however, products here at Pure Beauty which are packed with natural oils which not only treat your skin but smell sensational in the process, allowing you to smell phenomenal without wearing perfume. Here are a few of our favourites:

Elemis Exotic Frangipani Monoi Body Cream

While many perfumes contain alcohol and other ingredients which irritate the skin, this body cream from Elemis is enriched with macadamia oil and lipid-rich sesame oil to leave skin deeply hydrated and silky smooth. The unique infusion of exotic Tahitian monoi oil, a blend of tiare flowers soaked in coprah oil, is fragranced with frangipani flowers to leave skin feeling beautifully soft, supple and delicately scented.

Decleor Aromessence Neroli Amara Hydrating Oil Serum

As well as being a multi-award winning serum which will deeply hydrate and rebalance all skin types, this serum is made from 100% pure and natural essential oils which means that it won’t irritate the skin. The combination of essential oils will not only work on our skin but cocoon you in a layer of long-lasting, gentle fragrance which will last all day.

Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash

This body wash from Dermalogica contains a huge variety of essential oils, such as tea tree, lemon, eucalyptus, rosemary, sandalwood, lavender, orange and clary sage which moisturise the skin, leaving it smooth and conditioned, as well as giving your skin a wonderful fragrance. It gently purifies the skin without stripping the skin’s own natural moisturisers.

Elemis Exotic Frangipani Monoi Hand and Nail Cream

One of the places we often neglect is our hands and nails, but using this hand and nail cream from elemis will benefit you in a number of ways. As well as nourishing the skin and keeping the hands feeling soft and supple, it will leave your hands delicately scented, thanks to the Tahitian monoi and frangipani flowers.

Decleor Refreshing Mist

You wouldn’t usually choose your facial toner based on it’s scent, but this refreshing mist from Decleor contains mint flower water to rejuvenate and a blend of essential oils such as lemongrass, thyme and rosemary for a fragrant aromatic sensation. It can be used after cleansing, to set make-up or whenever skin needs an invigorating burst of hydration and will leave you smelling great.

The Power of the Sea at Pure Beauty

Cellutox Active Body OilWith the summer holidays in full swing, many of us are taking time out and heading to the coast for a well-earned break.

If you don’t have this luxury, or aren’t going away quite yet, we have a range of fantastic products at Pure Beauty that bring the power of the sea to you.

Let’s start with the sensational, Elemis Cellutox Active Body Oil. Crafted from a blend of of Sea Buckthorn, Sea Fennel, Lemon and Juniper essential oils, this really is the a great body detox product you can use at home. The mix of ingredients mean that this oil nourishes, detoxifies and stimulates as it helps to smooth out the cellulite that can build up on our skin. Regular use can also help deal with the toxins that build up in the body when we eat a poor diet, deal with stress and don’t take enough exercise. It is best to use the oil before 7pm and you will see results from warming just a little in your hands and gently massaging into problem areas such as your tummy, buttocks and thighs.

You might not associate Sea Water Extract and Arctic Algae with beauty products but they can be found in the Dermalogica Stress Positive Eye Lift . This cooling cream-gel works with the skin’s natural microbiome, or microflora, to brighten and energise the eye area and work on the puffiness and dark circles that can get us down. Together, the Sea Water Extract and Algae have a toning action which helps to improve skin firmness under the eyes, so that the area looks smoother and healthier than ever. To see results, apply the gel generously around your eye area after cleansing, using the cooling massage applicator, leave on for five minutes before massaging any excess product into skin.

After a hard day at work or following a session at the gym, nothing quite hits the spot like a soaking in the bath. For a really great bath, why not add a little Elemis Aching Muscle Super Soak? Extracts of Birch, Juniper, Clove, Alpine Lavender, Wild Thyme and Blue Chamomile have been combined with Sea Salt and together they warm the muscles and recharge the body.

When it comes to erasing visible lines around the eyes and mouth area, we love the Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm. This powerful firming complex is packed with Red Seaweed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E with added Organic Silicones which give protection against damage, accelerate repair, strengthen elasticity and improve smoothness.

If you want to create a spa at home, you need a jar of Elemis Frangipani Monoi Salt Glow. This luxurious salt scrub melts into your skins and leave it beautifully soft and nourished. Mineral rich salts and Hibiscus cleanse and exfoliate your body while Tahitian Monoi oil and Frangipani flowers seal in moisture and the smell transports you to a tropical resort so your worries drift away.

It is the partly due to the Red Seaweed Extract, which is rich in calcium ions, that makes the Dermalogica Power Rich such a great product. Perfect for drier and prematurely ageing skin, pharmaceutical-strength grade of formula guarantees that you’ll see a difference in your skin after just one week. Smoothing the product over cleansed skin, morning and evening, focusing on areas of visible ageing and in time resilience and strength will be restored and your complexion will glow.

If you would like more details about our coastal products, or would like to try some samples, please do get in touch and we would love to help find something that is perfect for you.

Top tips for great hair

www.pexels.comMany of us, wash our hair while we are in the shower, blast it with the dryer, style with tongs or straighteners, tie it back with a band and then wonder why it doesn’t look glossy like the celebrities on the red carpet.

While you can’t have Vidal Sassoon on speed dial, you can have lush looking locks by simply making a few small changes to the way you treat your hair every day.

Washing
A lot of people don’t actually get their hair really clean when they wash it, which means, over time, product builds up and this can cause dullness and a lack of shine. Try shampooing your hair twice rather than once and you will soon see a big difference. The first wash removes dirt and grime, and second gives you the chance to get it totally squeaky clean, but wash all the lather away for the very best results.

Conditioning
You might think conditioning your hair is a waste of time, but we don’t agree and believe it can make a huge difference. Go for a good quality product that is right for your hair and make sure you wring out all the water before applying the conditioner. Excess water in your hair will dilute the conditioner and won’t allow it to work as well as it could. This is especially important if you have coloured and highlighted hair or split ends which need a little love before your next cut. Leave the conditioner in for a minute or two, then rinse and wrap in a soft towel which will soak up the excess water.

Air-Drying
Leaving your hair to dry naturally saves time and money and it also takes the heat away from your delicate tresses. As much as we love doing this, we know that if you do leave nature to dry your hair, it can look a little messy and out of control, which isn’t always what you want. To stop this from happening, gently towel dry.ing your hair, then adding a little product is all it takes to stop the fluffy look from taking over. A curl or wave cream can be all you need to create a natural look that you will love. If you want a sleeker style, spraying a little hair oil can work wonders and if it’s body you are looking for, go for a plait and when you let your hair loose, you will look like a total beach babe.

Dry Shampoo
When you use dry shampoo, think about prevention rather than cure. If you have fine hair you will know that it can get oily, fast, but by adding dry shampoo to freshly washed, damp hair before drying, will not only add instant volume but also means you can longer between washes. We would suggest you add a dry shampoo to your gym bag or suitcase as it can be a total beauty lifesaver if you are short on time but still want to look, and feel, great.

When to Wash
One of the most common problems when it comes to hair is over-washing. Every time you wash your hair, your natural oils and proteins are stripped away, so try not to do it every day. We know all hair types are different but if you can wash yours every other day, tying up greasy hair if it bothers you when it isn’t super clean, it will work in your favour in the long run.

Summer Loving
We are getting good at looking after our skin in the summer, but we don’t always do the same for our hair. If you are out in the sun a lot, wear a hat or scarf and not only will this help your hair but stop your scalp from getting burnt too. If you are swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool, rinse your hair when you get out of the water and use a shampoo that can help your hair retain moisture.

Don’t Split Up
Split ends are an age-old problem but by using creams, oils, and special serums, you can smooth out those issues until your next cut and a do remember that using a hair mask weekly can also really help and make a huge difference in your hair health.

Go for Good Tools
We have talked about skin already and you need to treat your hair the same way by using the best products you can. Investing in top quality shampoos and conditioners, as well as styling tools (including combs and brushes) will really make a difference to your hair and will keep it looking healthy and strong and feeling soft and silky.

Take care of your skin from a young age

www.pexels.comYou might be baby-faced right now and get asked for ID when you order at the bar, but this won’t last forever and doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of your skin.

In fact, quite the opposite.

When it comes to skincare, we believe it is never too early to start taking proactive steps to keep your complexion healthy, happy and looking great, today, tomorrow and for a long time to come.

We have some tips that we hope will give you the basis of a good routine that will last a lifetime.

Wear SPF every day
Come rain or shine, wear an SPF every day to keep your skin safe from sun damage. A tan may look good now, but the sun could take away your youthful looks, and even your life, in the future. UVB rays can burn your skin in the quest for a glowing tan, but the UVA rays can age and ravage your skin because they go deep into every layer causing trouble as they do so. These rays are always around and can reflect off concrete, sand, water, and snow, which is just as damaging as direct exposure. Your daily activities in your teens and 20s will affect your skin for years to come, so slap the cream on and wear glasses and a hat too!

Use the three-step beauty routine
This simple, but effective, morning and bedtime routine will help to ensure you’re doing everything you can to take care of your skin.

Step 1: cleanse your skin to take away make up, dirt, excess oils and sweat and this will give you a clean base to work from and peace of mind that your complexion is being well taken care of. Do look at the best products for your skin and whether it is dry, sensitive, greasy or blemish prone, there will be a cleanser that is right for you. Even if you are shattered after a long day, don’t skip this and sleep in your make up because this really won’t do your skin (or bedding) any favours.

Step 2: toning might sound old-fashioned, but get the right one and it can work wonders for your skin and keep it in tip-top condition.

Step 3 – moisituring is key to healthy skin as this will add hydration and keep your complexion looking clear, smooth and healthy.

Add an eye cream
Hydration around the eyes starts to become important in your twenties as this is skin is the thinnest on your face and the most sensitive so it is generally the first place to show signs of ageing. Start using an eye cream at night to help maintain moisture levels and to combat any signs of puffiness or dark circles. If you feel like your skin is feeling tight, use in the morning as well but, remember to go for a product that is right for your needs and age.

Don’t forget to exfoliate
In addition to the above daily routine, exfoliating your face twice a week is also a good idea. This simple step will help to remove dead skin cells and keep your face clean, smooth and happy.

Ditch the bad habits
You might look good at 20, but if you are tanning, taking advantage of happy hour most nights and smoking, the chances are your skin will start to show signs of your lifestyle. We aren’t saying don’t have fun, but ditching the cigarettes, swapping vodka for water a few nights a week and opting for a spray tan rather than a sunbed, can really help keep your skin safe, healthy and youthful for longer.

Exercise
We are all busy, but adding exercise into your life can really help your skin and all-round physical and mental health. A run in the park, paddle boarding session on the river or a workout in the gym will get your body pumping, those feel-good endorphins following and give you a glow that no make-up can compete with.

Look at your diet
Skincare doesn’t stop at what you put on your skin, but what you feed it too. What you eat and drink will impact on the way you look, and feel, not only today but in the future too.  A diet that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, lean protein, good fats, and water, will help your skin looking great, your mood will be lifted and you will have more energy. Eat little an often, don’t skip breakfast, swap coffee for green tea and add seeds to your smoothies for an extra boost all round.

If you have any questions about your skincare routine and finding what works for you, get in touch and we would love to help.

How to Tackle the Dreaded Bacne!

How to Tackle the Dreaded Bacne!
Royalty-free image

If you’re prone to acne on your face, there’s just as much of a chance that you’ll also be prone to it elsewhere in your body, and the back is one of the most common locations for acne, after the face. Tackling back acne (or bacne, as it’s come to be known) might seem like something which is potentially tricky, but it’s actually not that much different to your face, so we’ve put together a little guide to help you:

Think About What You Wash With

There are a whole load of things designed to wash your acne-prone face, but when the acne is elsewhere, it can be trickier unless you’ve got someone willing to wash your back with Dermalogica Foaming Wash every time you shower or bathe. Choosing a decent soap-free body wash like Dermalogica Conditioning Body Wash will help as soap can dry the skin, which will exacerbate acne.

Exfoliation

Exfoliating is really important when you’ve got acen-prone skin as you need to get rid of old skin cells, excesses of sebum and other nasties which contribute towards spot formation. Elemis Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow is a great all-over exfoliator which will help to slough away dead skin, leaving your back feeling refreshed and deeply clean.

Moisturise

Believe it or not, skin which is oily still needs to be moisturised, even if it’s producing too much sebum as this can often be caused by an underlying imbalance. The same goes for your back, but many rich body moisturisers are simply too rich for acneic skin. Decleor Moisturising Body Milk is a light velvety moisturiser to help nourish and soften the skin without layering too much oil back into the skin and making acne worse.

Rinse Properly

This one is something that a lot of people don’t think of, but it’s just as important as using the right products. When you shower and wash your hair, often residual shampoo and conditioner is left on your back. Also, if you bathe rather than shower, all of the products you use will still be on your skin unless you rinse really well before you get out, and this can all contribute to spot formation and irritation.

Bacne Yoga

One of the biggest issues that bacne sufferers report is the fact that you need to be a contortionist to reach the areas you need to treat, so using a spray-on product is the perfect answer. Dermalogica UltraCalming Mist is a soothing toner that provides critical hydration while helping to relieve and defend against inflammation, whilst relieving inflammation and discomfort, helping skin recover from damage and lipid barrier breakdown.

Summer wardrobe staples

www.pexels.com

If you are ready to ditch the heavy sweaters of winter as the temperatures rise, but don’t quite know what to swap them for, we are here to help.

The shops might be full of summer styles, but don’t go overboard and max out your credit card in a rush to look cool.  Instead, create a basic capsule wardrobe that works and you can simply add in your favourite items from seasons past and will look catwalk ready in seconds and leave your cash for the big holiday treat.

Denim
Think shorts, cut off dungarees or a vintage skirt and denim is a summer staple you cannot live without. We love an indigo dark wash, but white denim is big for SS 2018 and looks good not only with a bold tee but add a silky vest and heels and you are good to go for a big night out.

Sunglasses
Whether you go for classic aviators, big and bold or the popular cat-eye frames, sunglasses have a place every season, but especially in summer. Go for a good quality make,  keep them in a case so they don’t get scratched and whether you are reading by the pool, cycling to work or hiding the damage from the night before, always take them with you.

A Big Bag
Your phone, water, sun cream and spare flip-flops are only the tip of the iceberg of what you need to carry around in the heat, so go get a big bag for all your stuff. Raffia and netting are big this summer, an oversized tote in light grey or bright orange will give you a style edge and you will always stand out from the crowd with a botanical print. Decisions, decisions.

The Shirt Dress
Long, short or midi-maxi – it doesn’t matter what length you opt for but add one of these to your basket the next time you are shopping. Cotton and linen are best as the natural fibres let your skin breath, and white or pale blue give a sophisticated feel to the rest of your outfit and can be offset with bright pumps.

Add a Hat
Be it a cap, floppy straw affair or a wide-brimmed sun hat, one of these not only add to your street cred but can also protect your skin from burning and prevent sun spots forming.

Sandals
We don’t think we could keep this down to just one pair because the choice is so huge, but sandals are the summer staple you simply cannot be without. From lemon yellow and royal blue, to citrus lime and shimmering silver, you could almost have a different pair for each day of the week as there are flat, stacked and block heels all out there for the taking. Don’t forget to add sun cream to your feet and also moisturise your heels as dry, cracked skin isn’t fun.

Swimmers
While you can lounge by the pool in a bikini, a one piece is the perfect item to take you from the beach to the bar via the shop and it will always look fab and there will seldom be and slip ups. There are some simply stunning swimsuits out there this year to flatter any shape and suit any budget, and we think that your biggest dilemma will be choosing which one to go for.

Bardot Top
This isn’t the first season that off the shoulder tops and dresses have been big, so we really think you need to get involved in this classy look. Daring bolds, French vibes, delicate chambray and structured stripes are just some of the options out there but we do suggest you try before you buy to check the stay-ability.

Got a trend we have missed off the list? Let us know and we are happy to add it in.

Happy Holiday Hacks

www.pexels.com

You have been waiting to get away from it ever since you sat at your desk in January, so if you want to make the most out of your summer holiday, we have some happy holiday hacks that we hope will ensure everything is smooth sailing.

Passport
Sounds so obvious but if you are travelling abroad, just double-check your passport to ensure it is up to date and you can actually leave home shores? There is nothing worse that turning up at T5 only to be told you cannot board your plane. If you find that things aren’t as you hoped, check in with the Passport Customer Service Centre and get an appointment somewhere close to you, fast.

Tickets
In a similar vein, whether they are electronic or paper versions, ensure you have your tickets safe in one place so you are ready to go.

Taxi
If you are going to the airport, or need transfers when you land, book these in advance and remember to shop around for the best prices.  Give your flight details to the company because there is nothing worse than being ready to jump in the pool and have your first G&T but you can’t because there are another 200 people waiting for a cab and yours hasn’t turned up or your flight was delayed and your driver has gone.

Duty Free
If you are going to stock up on your favourite treats, do it once you have cleared customs and this way you won’t go over weight on an already bulging case full of bikinis and flip-flops.

It’s All About the Money
Yes, take some cash with you, but don’t empty your account before you travel. Instead take your debit card with you and use this to make a few large withdraws rather than lots of little ones as the charges can really add up. If you are going to spend over £100 in one go, use a credit card as this gives you added security but you might want to let your provider know you are travelling aboard so they don’t think there is any untoward payments being made.

Take Out Insurance
We all like to think we will be safe when we are away, but we think it is better to be safe that sorry. Always take out an insurance policy that will protect you and your belongings and as well as packing the documentation in your hand luggage, store emails on your phone just to be 100% certain you know where the details are if you need them.

Jabs
While a dodgy tummy and a little sunburn can come with holiday territory, you don’t want anything more severe, so just check whether you need any jabs before you go – especially if you are going on a cruise or backpacking and visiting many different places during one trip.

Take Your Cream
We all know what we like, so take your favourite, tried and tested sun cream with you. Yes, you can buy it when you arrive, but it would be a shame for an allergic reaction to spoil your break for the sake of wrapping the bottle in a plastic bag and layering between your swimsuit and sarong. The same goes for your moisturisers, eyes creams and serums too, because if you stick with what you know, you know what to expect.

Chargers
Phone, camera, iPad, we all have some many devices these days but unless you are true to one brand all the time, one charger probably won’t fit all. Make sure you take the right charger for the right products, and adapters are a good idea too, unless of course you are planning to go on a digital detox and let’s face it, that isn’t a bad idea at all.

Relax
Once you arrive at your holiday destination, kick back, relax and enjoy a well-earned break!
