Five Tips for Better Sleep During a Heatwave

While most of us are thoroughly enjoying the uncommonly warm weather that we’re being blessed with, here in the UK, there’s no denying the fact that it’s making sleep more elusive. Air conditioned houses aren’t hugely common on our temperate shores, which means that we’ve all been revving up the fans in order to try to get some rest. The problem with that is that fans can be noisy, which isn’t always conducive to sleep, so we’ve put together some other tips and tricks that you can try to help to make sleeping during a heatwave more comfortable:

Have a Cool Shower

It might not be the most pleasant experience, but a cold shower will cool you down right before bed. If you’re really averse to an icy blast, then go for lukewarm water; it will still have a cooling effect. Additionally, using This Works Deep Sleep Shower Gel will leave skin feeling soft, moisturised and lightly fragranced, preparing you for a peaceful night’s sleep. You can also allow yourself to air dry, rather than rubbing with a towel, to allow your body to stay cooler for longer.

Swap Your Skincare

If you use a night cream, swapping it for one which contains ingredients to encourage sleep and relaxation can help when you’re sweltering. Decleor Lavender Fine Night Balm is formulated to work at night when the skin is most receptive. The sensual and aromatic balm relaxes the senses before sleep and has a heavenly melt-in texture allowing it to be rapidly absorbed. The combination of geranium, camomile and lavender will work on your skin and your senses so that you wake up to plumped, soft and beautifully rested skin.

Cool Your Pulse Points

The pulse points on your body can cool the rest of you effectively – place a cold flannel or ice cubes in a plastic bag on your wrists and neck and you’ll be surprised by the effectiveness. We’d also highly recommend applying Elemis Instant Refreshing Gel to your pulse points as it combines soothing extracts of arnica, birch and witch hazel, with cooling camphor and menthol, which will help you to feel as though you’re cooling down.

Use a Pillow Mist

Another way to give you a better chance of falling asleep even when you’re too hot and sticky is by making sure your environment is calming. Using a pillow mist, such as Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Sleep Mist, will help you to shrug off daily fatigue, slow a racing mind and prepare you for undisturbed, restorative sleep. It contains a handcrafted blend of vetivert, camomile and sandalwood pure essential oils which also help to ease stress and anxiety.

Wear a Mask

Wearing masks in bed can be great in a number of ways. An eye mask can sometimes help you to sleep during the summer as it helps to block out the light if you’re trying to sleep before it’s completely dark. It’s also a good time to use a facial mask product such as Decleor Sweet Orange Skin Perfecting Sleeping Mask, as it  reduces the appearance of dark spots, which can be a particular problem during the summer. Finally, Hayo’u Clear Quartz Crystal Eye Mask will give you a truly transformative experience as it helps decrease puffiness, soothe tired eyes and release tension.
